Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Ming:49 Countries and 10 International Organizations to Attend China's Commemoration on September 3

On the morning of August 25, 2015 at the special press conference on the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War held by the State Council Information Office (SCIO), Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Ming introduced the foreign guests who were invited to attend the event.

Zhang Ming said that China has invited countries and international friends relevant to the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War to solemnly hold the Sept. 3 Commemoration together with the Chinese people in China, which has received wide response and support from the international community. So far, 49 countries have confirmed their attendance at the commemoration at invitation, including 30 heads of state, heads of governments and other foreign leaders, 19 high-level government representatives as well as 10 leaders of the international and regional organizations. The foreign leaders and government representatives who have confirmed their attendance are listed as follows (in the English alphabetical order of the names of their countries):

Zhang Ming said that heads of 10 international and regional organizations, including Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon of the United Nations, Director-General Margaret Chan of the World Health Organization (WHO), Director-General Irina Gueorguieva Bokova of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Director-General Li Yong of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), President Peter Maurer of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Secretary-General Dmitry Mezentsev of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Director Zhang Xinfeng of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Executive Secretary Sergey Lebedev of the Commonwealth of the Independent States, Secretary-General Nikolai Bordyuzha of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO), Executive Director Gong Jianwei of the CICA Secretariat, will be present upon invitation.

In addition, 6 former political heavyweights including former Prime Minister Gerhard Schroeder of Germany, former Prime Minister Tomiichi Murayama of Japan, former President of the Philippines and Mayor of Manila Joseph Estrada, former Captain Regent Gianfranco Terenzi of San Marino, former President José Manuel Ramos-Horta of East Timor, former Prime Minister Tony Blair of the United Kingdom, as well as envoys from different countries to China and resident representatives of international organizations to China, will also be present upon invitation.
