Xi Jinping Meets with Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs Susan Rice of US

On August 28, 2015, President Xi Jinping met at the Great Hall of the People with Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs Susan Rice of the US.

Xi Jinping noted that China and the US have maintained close exchanges in all levels since the beginning of this year. The seventh round of China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED) and the sixth round of High-level Consultation on People-to-People Exchange have yielded fruitful results. The two countries have made positive progress in bilateral cooperation in a series of important sectors, and enjoy extensive common interests and great cooperation potential. A stable and constantly growing China-US relationship not only conforms to the fundamental interests of the two countries and two peoples, but also conduces to safeguarding the peace and development in Asia-Pacific region as well as the world at large. China is willing to join efforts with the US to continuously boost all-round practical cooperation in bilateral, regional and global terms and manage the sensitive issues in a constructive manner, so as to make the China-US relationship bring more and better benefits to the people of the two countries as well as the whole world.

Xi Jinping stressed that the China-US relations should pursue not only stability but also development and insist on the track of dialogue, cooperation and constant development. China and the US should strive for stability based on mutual trust. China firmly sticks to a peaceful development path, unswervingly uphold an open strategy of mutual benefit and win-win result, and commits itself to building a new model of major-country relationship with the US featuring no-conflict and no-confrontation, mutual respect, and win-win cooperation. China and the US should pursue development by cooperation, quicken negotiations on a bilateral investment agreement, intensify military-to-military exchanges and cooperation, strive for more progress in such sectors as energy and infrastructure, and boost dialogue and cooperation on global issues such as Asia-Pacific affairs and climate change and regional hot-spot issues. China and the US should manage issues of difference through communication, sincerely respect and take care of each other's core interests, and make efforts to expand common ground while reducing differences to maintain the big picture of stable development of the bilateral relationship.

Xi Jinping pointed out that he will pay a state visit to the US next month at the invitation of President Barack Obama. He is willing to, together with President Barack Obama, having in-depth exchanges of views on major issues of common concern, and discussing on the grand plans on deepening friendship between the two peoples and promoting bilateral cooperation in all fields, so as to bring more benefits to the people in the two nations as well the the whole world.

Susan Rice said that her visit this time aims to make preparation for the state visit to the US paid by President Xi Jinping next month. President Barack Obama looks forward to continuing in-depth exchanges of views with President Xi Jinping on bilateral relations and major international issues of common concern. The US will work with China to ensure President Xi Jinping's state visit to the US a complete success and the visit a milestone in the history of bilateral relationship. President Barack Obama and the US side think highly of the Chinese people's great contribution to the end of World War II as well as the US-China friendship forged during the war as China is set to solemnly commemorate the 70th anniversary of the victory of the war. President Barack Obama and the US government attach great importance to the US-China relationship, and look forward to more positive results of cooperation in more extensive sectors based on the constructive efforts made by the two sides. The US is also ready to work with China to properly handle the issues of difference in bilateral relations to advance bilateral relations in a stable way.
