Xi Jinping Holds Talks with General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and President Choummaly Sayasone of Laos

On August 31, 2015, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Chinese President, held talks in Beijing with Choummaly Sayasone, General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and Lao President, who was in China for attendance of the commemorations marking the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and World Anti-Fascist War.

Xi Jinping, on behalf of the CPC and Chinese government, expressed appreciation to the LPRP and the Lao government for their vigorous support to the commemorations held by China. Xi Jinping stressed that China and Laos were both victims in World War II. Both peoples stood shoulder to shoulder to fight aggression and strive for national independence and forged a profound friendship. China is willing to, together with Laos and all other countries in the world, contribute even more to regional and world peace and development.

Xi Jinping spoke highly of the relations between the two Parties as well as the two nations, and appreciated the great efforts made by Choummaly Sayasone in consolidating the China-Laos mutual strategic trust and developing bilateral friendly cooperation since he took office as the supreme leader of the Party and the country in 2006. Xi Jinping pointed out that recent years have witnessed momentum of tremendous growth in bilateral exchanges and cooperation in all sectors and comprehensively enhanced belts linked by common destiny, common interest and people-to-people and cultural exchanges, marking that the relationship between the two Parties and two countries has entered its best period in history.

Xi Jinping stressed that China is willing to, together with Laos and under the guidance of the cooperation philosophy of long-term stability, good-neighborly friendship, mutual trust and comprehensive cooperation, further push forward the China-Laos all-round strategic partnership of cooperation featuring a high degree of mutual trust, mutual assistance and reciprocity and forge an unbreakable China-Laos community of common destiny. Both sides should maintain close high-level exchanges between the two Parties and countries and the annual meeting between the supreme leaders of the two countries. China is ready to actively advance the effective connection between the construction of the "Belt and Road" initiative and the development strategies of Laos, carry out production capacity cooperation featured by mutual benefit and win-win result, and elevate the convergence of interests between the two sides to a higher level. China is willing to, together with Laos, ensure the success of the fourth seminar on theories of the two political parties, intensify cooperation between the departments of the two Parties, and enhance experience exchange in governance and administration of state affairs. China and Laos should also cement security cooperation, and expand cooperation in culture, education and tourism and youth exchanges. China appreciates the long-term and firm support offered by Laos in international and regional affairs. It is hoped that both sides could continue boosting bilateral cooperation in such multi-lateral mechanisms as the United Nations, ASEAN Plus One, ASEAN Plus Three and the Greater Mekong Subregion Economic Cooperation.

Choummaly Sayasone spoke highly of the great contribution made by the Chinese people during the World War II and the deep friendship forged between the Chinese and Lao people as they fought side by side. He briefed on the current situation in Laos and the building of the LPRP and expressed heartfelt appreciation for China's long-term and valuable support on behalf of the Party, government and people of Laos. Choummaly Sayasone expressed that he fully agrees with President Xi Jinping's comments on bilateral relations and views on promoting the Laos-China all-round strategic partnership of cooperation. It is hoped that both sides could continue keeping close high-level exchanges, deepen experience exchange on party building and enhance coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Chang Wanquan, Yang Jiechi and Wang Jiarui were present at the talks.

Following the talks, Xi Jinping and Choummaly Sayasone attended the signing ceremony of relevant documents on bilateral cooperation together.
