Xi Jinping Meets with President Tomislav Nikolić of Serbia

On August 31, 2015, President Xi Jinping met with President Tomislav Nikolić of Serbia in the Great Hall of the People.

Xi Jinping welcomed Tomislav Nikolić to China to attend the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. He pointed out that China and Serbia and their peoples made great sacrifices for and significant contributions to the eventual defeat of the Fascist forces on the Asian and European battlefields respectively during the World War II. Looking into the future, it will remain our shared objective and sacred mission to safeguard the hard-won world peace together.

Xi Jinping stressed that in recent years the China-Serbia strategic partnership has seen continuous improvement, with the sound political relations and mutually beneficial and practical cooperation presenting a momentum of rapid development. We stand ready to work with the Serbian side to further promote the China-Serbia relations to new heights. China regards Serbia as an important cooperative partner. Serbia and other Central and Eastern European countries are important countries along the route of the "Belt and Road" initiative. China and Serbia should make full use of the existing advantageous conditions to win new important opportunities for bilateral practical cooperation in constructing the "Belt and Road", fuel respective national economic and social development and benefit both peoples.

Tomislav Nikolić expressed that he is delighted to come to China and celebrate the 70th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War with the Chinese people. Serbia regards China as its great and sincere partner, and is satisfied with the development of relations between both sides. The Serbian side is willing to enhance its cooperation with China in communication, automobile manufacturing, transportation, water conservancy infrastructure construction and other fields.
