On September 4, 2015, Mme. Peng Liyuan, wife of President Xi Jinping and Special Envoy for the Promotion of Education for Girls and Women of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), met at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse with Director-General Irina Bokova of the UNESCO, who was in China to attend the commemorations marking the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

I will continue to fulfill my mission as the UNESCO Special Envoy for the Promotion of Education for Girls and Women and fight for the rights of education for girls and women.

Irina Bokova congratulated China on the full success of the commemorations marking the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, and spoke highly of the contribution of the Chinese government and Peng Liyuan to promoting education for girls and women.

Peng Liyuan and Irina Bokova jointly met with Asian and African attendees of the International Seminar on Girls' and Women's Education. Peng Liyuan said that in the recent years, through a variety of ways such as setting up funds in the UNESCO, the Chinese government has helped Asia and Africa develop teacher training, and promote girls' and women' education in particular. We will continue to make efforts in this regard.
