On the afternoon of July 27, 2023, Peng Liyuan, wife of President Xi Jinping, met in Chengdu of Sichuan Province with Indonesia's First Lady Ibu Iriana Jokowi who is China with Indonesian President Joko Widodo to attend the opening ceremony of the 31st summer edition of the FISU World University Games and pay a visit to China.

In the height of summer, fragrant grass filled the courtyard of the Jinniu Hotel's Jinrong Villa where Peng Liyuan warmly welcomed Iriana. They together enjoyed distinctive intangible cultural heritage crafts of Chengdu, including filamentary silver hovering art, bamboo weaving porcelain, and Sichuan embroidery. Peng Liyuan invited Iriana to watch a tea art performance and had a friendly tea chat with her.

Peng Liyuan happily recalled her multiple meetings with Iriana, saying that China and Indonesia enjoy cultural affinity and close people-to-people connectivity. She expressed the hope that both sides will deepen friendship and promote amicable relations. Peng Liyuan said Ms. Iriana is welcome to visit more places in Chengdu to enjoy the local culture and scenery. Iriana thanked Peng Liyuan for her thoughtful arrangements, spoke highly of China's effort to protect and preserve the intangible cultural heritage, and said that her trip to Chengdu has deepened her understanding and love of Chinese history and culture.
